Background
Fr Adrian Yeo comes from a family of 2 other siblings and parents. His father was an ex-cashier who worked in Crocodile Paradise prior to his retirement. His mother was a house wife. Though he has a loving family, he was not very close with his siblings due to their age gap of 5 years. His elder sister is now happily married with 3 kids and his younger brother happens to be a priest as well, Fr Ignatius Yeo. Fr Adrian earliest days was spent in Rambai Road until he was 8 years old. Thereafter, his family moved to Haig Road, within the vicinity of Katong. There, he went for catechism at the Church of our Lady Queen of Peace, and received the Sacrament of Confirmation in 1979. 2 years later, Fr Adrian’s joined the alter boys society that would mark the start of a life centered on the Church. He served mass daily, both in the morning and evenings. After mass, he would hang out with church friends before returning home for dinner. Whenever the elderly church sacristan fell sick, he stood in for her. On Saturdays, Fr Adrian’s routine ran like this; Legion of Mary meetings at 3pm, sell Catholic News afterwards, attend evening mass and then proceed with friends to dinner and fun. After completing
his O levels, Fr Adrian went on to do his A levels before doing national
service. National service did not seem to deter his church activities
much. Life in the army was generally uneventful. He would go for morning
masses and have breakfast with the parish priest. Thereafter, he would
travel to his army camp by bus, conveniently taken at the bus stop just
outside the Church of our Lady Queen of Peace.
After completing his national service, Fr Adrian then worked for 2 and half years (from 1989 to 1992) as a Clerical Officer (Finance) in the CAAS (Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore). Though he enjoyed his work, he was still not fulfilled. He realized that serving the Lord gave him a sense of joy no other activity or endeavor could give him. In 1992, he entered the Major Seminary at Ponggol to undergo his priestly training that lasted 7 years. He was ordained as a deacon on 28th May 1999 at the Church of the Holy Spirit. On 6th June 1999, he was ordained to the priesthood at Church of our Lady Queen of Peace. After ordination, Fr Adrian served briefly at Church of the Holy Spirit from November 1999 to Jan 2000. He later served at the Church of the Holy Family, from February 2000 to February 2002, before received his posting to Church of the Risen Christ.
Fr Adrian encourages all parishioners to participate and work together to help achieve the goals set forth by our Parish Priest. Fr Adrian serves as spiritual director to many of the groups here at this Church. They include the Rites of Christian Initiation for Youth (RCIY), Alter Boys, Liturgy Committee, Choirs, Lectors, Library, Divine Mercy Group, Mother of Christ Presidium, Publicity Ministry, Catechist, Catholic Youth Fellowship (CYF) and Youth Committee. Fr Adrian is also an Associate Advocate to the Marriage Tribunal and serves as Senator in the Senate of Priest (both post undertaken since 2005). He also directs the Catholic Young Adults Network (CYAN) and has been the Spiritual Director of CHOICE since 2004. In addition, he was the Chaplain to the Admiralty West Prison (from 2003 to 2005) and now ministers to the inmates at Kaki Bukit school prison.
Favourite Scripture Verse “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served; he came to serve and to give his life to redeem many people.” (Mark 10:45)
Unlike Fr John Sim and Fr Loiseau who are restricted in this area for health reasons, Fr Adrian is fortunate to participate in our national past time. He enjoys eating and regards satay, popiah and sweet sour pork as his favourites.
During his limited free time, Fr Adrian watches tv and enjoys surfing the internet, He also likes to listen to music and plays computer games like SIMs City and Rainbow 6! |
