Known as "Fr Stanley" to most parishioners of Church of the Risen Christ, Fr Stanislaus Pang is the eldest of three boys but lost a brother seven years ago. Other members in the family include parents and a youngest brother who is married.
Call to the Priesthood
He was in his early thirties when Fr Stanislaus gave serious thought to joining the priesthood. He said, "I wanted to upgrade myself and at the same time do more for the church." After a process of prayer and discernment guided by his spiritual director, he left his job as a senior project and systems engineer at an American MNC and joined the seminary in 1995.
After serving at St Anne's Church for 2 years after ordination, Fr Stanislaus headed to Rome to study The Code of Canon Law for the next 3 years. The course also enabled him to study theology of the church in which he has a keen interest. Fr Stanislaus is now part of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal in Singapore, whilst taking on pastoral work at the parish.
Although he has been with Risen Christ for a few months, Fr Stanislaus feels that "I am still learning about the various ministries at the parish and will have to reflect on what would be the appropriate course of action that will help to meet the needs of the church".
Hopes & Aspirations for Our Parish
Just as serving God is a continual process, the spiritual development of parishioners as God’s people is also an on-going one. Fr Stanislaus feels that the lay parishioners are not only volunteers serving the church, but they can provide strong support for the functions of the church and in promoting the spiritual growth of the congregation. As such, Fr Stanislaus hopes that parishioners will "continuously equip themselves to evangelise our families, neighbours and offices under the guidance of pastors".
Contributions to External Organisations
Currently serving as Advocate with the Ecclesiastical Tribunal, Fr Stanislaus will also be teaching Canon Law at the Major Seminary and the Archdiocesan Historical Archives.
Favourite Scripture
Fr Stanislaus feels that he must pay attention to any part of scripture because the Holy Spirit, who is author of sacred scripture, is speaking through every part of our sacred writings.
Favourite Food
Fr Stanislaus tries to eat healthy food, as advised by the doctor.
