on Easter Day. |
Easter Sunday has always been especially significant for the congregation at Church of the Risen Christ.
On this day, the parishioners celebrate both the resurrection of Jesus Christ and their parish's Feast Day.
Part of the Easter celebration also saw the baptism of participants from the RCIA (Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults) Programme.
On Easter Vigil Night (15th April), 48 brothers and sisters from the English & Mandarin speaking communities were baptized.
In addition, 3 of our Christian brethren were received into full communion with our Catholic Church.
This year's festivities were held at Hotel Royal, with Archbishop Nicholas Chia as the Guest-of-Honour.
In his homily, the Archbishop called on the congregation to "live in the light of the Risen Lord… to recognize, respect and love one another as brothers and sisters in Christ".
About 600 parishioners and guests were treated to an afternoon of entertainment and a lucky draw.
The senior citizens group presented a folk dance, and three youths put their training to the test in an Indian dance.
And naturally, music was played throughout lunch by the church resident band, Croxwired.
Their repertoire ranged from contemporary pop/rock to rock & roll, catering to parishioners of all ages.
The band even invited other talented singers to sing for the guests.
In the spirit of "reaching out to one another with love and fellowship", as His Grace had reminded the congregation to do during mass, the Senior Citizens of St Francis Xavier Church presented an item at the Feast Day Lunch.
Dressed in their cowboy outfits, they thrilled the audience with a line dance number.
Perhaps the highlight was the lucky draw.
Some parishioners went home with lovely gifts, such as LCD TV, wines, chocolate hamper, and home sound system to a name a few.
The church was blessed with generous sponsors for the prizes, including Father John Sim who sponsored some of the prizes.
The organizers also added a special touch, by giving away the secular symbol of Easter - specially handmade chocolate Easter eggs from Chocz.
