As with previous years, the Parish Feast Day was celebrated over lunch at the Jade Restaurant at the Hotel Royal. But there were a couple of 'firsts' - performances by an 11-year-old girl and the Filipino Community
The young girl was one of two performers who danced to contemporary Indian music
The other group that shared a piece of their culture was the Banal na Pag-aaral or the Filipino Community. To express the tenacity of their faith and the joy of Easter, the group presented the 'Subli'. It is a dance that originated some three hundred years ago in the southern Tagalog region of Luzon, which is performed as a ceremonial worship dance to the town's icon, the holy cross.
Indeed, it was an afternoon of revelry that included an-all female dance by the Mandarin Group as well as a repertoire of songs performed by X-wired.
"It is good that parishioners come together to celebrate Easter, but it shouldn't be simply about having fun. the congregation should become closer spiritually as brothers and sisters in Christ," said Archbishop Nicholas Chia, when asked for his thoughts on the feast day.
And, thanks to The Cocoa Tree and other sponsors, parishioners had treats of chocolates and lucky draw.
