Proclaim the Gospel to every creature

‘Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation. He who believes and is baptised will be saved; he who does not believe will be condemned. These are the signs that will be associated with believers: in my name they will cast out devils; they will have the gift of tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and be unharmed should they drink deadly poison; they will lay their hands on the sick, who will recover.’ (Mk 16:15-18)Jesus ascended into heaven, He can no longer be with us physically. Just as the disciples were instructed by Jesus to “go out into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature”, so are we to be His “witnesses” wherever we are, in whatever secular role we have, that is, to be his eyes, to look upon others with compassion and love; to be his hands and feet, to help those who are in need. To be his voice, to sooth the broken hearted, to speak with kindness and understanding.

Ascension is not about looking up to heaven and waiting, it’s about the here and now. Let us pray that more of us will have the courage and faith to be a witness for Christ. To live as he would want us to live, so that the Lord can “confirm the word through accompanying signs”, to proclaim the gospel loud and clear by showing others what it means to live with Jesus within us.

Easter Sunday is the day the Lord has made for all Christians to remember and rejoice in the goodness and the manifestation of God’s love for us through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.

The Church of the Risen Christ celebrated its parish Feast Day on Easter Sunday with great joy on 8 April 2012. The church was packed with parishioners, mostly from Toa Payoh and Bishan, who gathered at the church for the 11:30 am anniversary Mass celebrated by His Grace Archbishop Nicholas Chia.

And there was indeed good reason for joy! The Lord had added to our numbers with many baptisms and confirmations the previous evening at the Easter Vigil. About 39 newly baptised or confirmed had just completed an almost year-long course with one of the following groups- RCIY, Mandarin RCIA and English RCIA

The Parish Feast Day Lunch was held at Hotel Royal, attended by more than four hundred parishioners and invited guests, with His Grace as the guest-of-honour. The MC surprised everyone by announcing that it was the Archbishop's birthday, and so we had an additional reason to be joyful!

During the lunch, the Vintage Care Group entertained with several songs and a line dance. The Filipino community performed an ethnic dance- the Candle Dance, with the dancers dressed in beautiful costumes. Fr Kamil came up to sing his favourite song "Words", much to everyone's delight!

As usual, there were games and the lucky draw. Some 30 prizes were won by parishioners, the top prize being an iPad 2. These lucky draw prizes had been sponsored by some generous parishioners and charitable companies.

Behind the scenes, several ministries had worked together to ensure everyone had a fabulous time on this joyous occasion.
