Drink from the fountain

23 March 2014 ( Third Sunday in Lent )
In the first reading, we see that even though the Israelites lacked faith in God and complained about their thirst, yet God still provided water in abundance which flowed out from the rock after Moses had struck it as instructed by God. The second reading shows Paul saying that ‘the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit which has been given us’.
This gift of the Holy Spirit is often described as the living water mentioned in the gospel today. When we open ourselves to God’s gift in faith, it will become a spring inside us, welling up to eternal life and our soul will never thirst again. In order to keep ourselves alive in God, we need to continually draw from this spring of living water; otherwise we can become weary and withered from confronting temptation and problems. Let us then not neglect the thirst of our soul but drink daily from the fountain of living water inside us.
