God's Abundant Love
This week's gospel account of Jesus illustrates that God loves us and "works tirelessly" to provide for our every need. On learning of the execution of his cousin, John the Baptist, Jesus retired into the boat with his disciples, intending to go to some lonely spot across the lake to grief. But as he got off the boat, many sick people were already looking to him for a cure. Tired as he was, Jesus took pity on them and started to heal them. Then as sunset was approaching, his disciples urged Jesus to send the crowd home in time for dinner. Instead, Jesus told his disciples to provide food for the crowd themselves. But his disciples could only find a small boy with five loaves and two fish. So Jesus multiplied them to feed the crowd, with twelve baskets left over. We should take every opportunity to be like that small boy. By our willingness to share our own "five loaves and two fish", which could mean our time, talents, possessions, wisdom and faith experience, we allow God to multiply our blessings for the benefit others.
