Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Holiness And Physical Healing
God wants us to be holy -- or wholesome -- more than we can ever want it for ourselves. Part of being wholesome is about being healthy in our body. Many of us are looking for physical cures but we don't care for the more important healing of the spirit and emotions. And we refuse to give up our habits of polluting our bodies and minds with smoking, drinking, pornography, cursing, eating unhealthy foods and so on. It is easier for God to heal our body (which is pure biology) than to heal our mind, especially when it is diseased by years of hatred and unforgiveness. That could be the reason why God sometimes withholds physical healing. If we were given physical healing every time we ask for it, there is the danger that we might use God as a dispensing machine. We should strive to be holy. When our mind is on God, our thoughts, words and actions will be positive, and we will not abuse our bodies. As a consequence of that, we will be able to see our physical illness in its proper perspective.
