Jesus We Trust In You
The apostles were morose and crestfallen after their master and teacher was handed over to the chief priests to be crucified. In the aftermath, they suffered mental pain. Judas was no more and Thomas vanished. Gathered in fear, we see the words of Jesus fulfilled, “Satan has got his wish to sift you all out like wheat.” In their anguish and despair, Jesus came and stood among them in today’s Gospel. “Peace be with you.” The presence of the Risen Lord strengthened and healed the apostles of their pain, depression and doubt. Peace restored to their troubled hearts. There are times where our pain, depression and doubt is prolonged because of the sifting out of the wheat by Satan and we have to wait longer than a week or so for our pain and doubts to be healed and there are times when we too like Thomas would like to put our finger into Jesus’ hands and side. In spite of the pain, doubt and depression God still embraces us as Jesus embraced Thomas. In these dark times may this mantra resound throughout: “Jesus, we trust in you!”
