30 November 2014 ( 1st Sunday of Advent )
Keep watch! Stay awake!
On this first Sunday of Advent, the Church reminds us to keep watch and stay awake. Many of us are busy building our own kingdoms, which could be our career, our wealth or our power base to the point that we neglect influencing for good and building God's kingdom in our families, parishes and in our working place. Some of us think that we can gain success through our own strength and intellect, forgetting that even that comes from God. Some of us may have turned to false gods which seem to be able to give us the material success that we crave for, and in double quick time. All these could cause us to miss the Master when he returns at a time we least expect. Or even if we see the Master returning, we may not be able to recognise his face because we have created our own gods. For Christians who keep the word of God in their hearts and apply them daily in their words and actions, they will be able to recognise the Master when he comes.
