Seek God’s wisdom
Today’s first reading shows our limited ability to do things and to know God’s will due to our lack of divine knowledge and understanding.
It is only when God sent us His Spirit that we received wisdom. Our paths were then set right and we learnt what pleases God.

Through the power and the wisdom of the Spirit, we experienced a renewal. In the second reading, we see the wisdom of God at work.
Both Onesimus and Philemon had been converted by the efforts of St Paul.

He became the key to reconciling the two men as brothers in Christ, both having to fulfill their obligations towards each other as master and slave.
The message in the gospel is on being wise about the “cost of discipleship”.
The two parables highlighted that wisdom is required to weigh the cost before committing to anything.

To become the disciples of Christ, we need to know the cost of discipleship and to be willing to commit our lives to God despite the cross we have to bear.
Let us therefore seek God’s wisdom as we take up our cross and follow Him.
