The Source of My Strength and Salvation
When surrounded by powerful foes and faced with imminent death, it’s not difficult to know the real meaning of fear. Take a look at Prophet Elijah. Despite performing spectacular miracles, including calling down fire from heaven to burn an offering, Elijah became afraid of Queen Jezebel who vowed to avenge the deaths of the prophets of Baal. Elijah fled for his life and lamented to God that “he have had enough”. God protected Elijah, and provided him with instructions on who to anoint as King of Syria and King of Israel, and who to succeed him as Prophet. Today’s Gospel reading reminds us to seek and do God’s will for us; accept Jesus and his sacrificial death on the cross as atonement for our sins. St Paul urge us as he did the Ephesians; as God has forgiven us in Christ, readily forgive and be generous to others. Let us take Christ as our model of Holiness, living life in love, peace and self-control. If we strive to abide in Christ here on earth, so will we abide in His presence in Paradise after the end of our days.
