13 March 2016 ( Fifth Sunday of Lent )

[Isaiah 43:16-21] [Philippians 3:8-14] [John 8:1-11]

Do Not Sin Again

In the first reading, God said not to glorify the past but to focus on the new thing He was about to do i.e. create new heavens and a new earth (Isaiah 65:17). Through the blood of Christ, the invisible kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven has been established. His Spirit will be given to His people to guide them in His holy ways. St Paul in the second reading calls everything in the world as rubbish for knowing Jesus Christ in a personal daily relationship far surpasses all worldly pleasures and wealth.

Only by faith in Jesus Christ does the door to salvation come to us. St Paul viewed attaining resurrection from the dead as a goal towards which he is running.

In today’s gospel reading, Jesus told the adulteress to ‘go your way, and from now on do not sin again’.

This is also a command to us not to live in mortal sin but to have a living faith, pure and holy in nature so as to enter the kingdom of God.

In this time of Lent, let us have a change of heart and rely on the Spirit to obey our Lord’s command: ‘Do not sin again’.
