In the first reading, St Peter spoke of the disciples of Christ witnessing what Jesus had said and done in Judea and Jerusalem. He affirmed that Jesus is the Lord of all, the Messiah who was crucified and died on the cross, reconciling man to God. Following His resurrection from the dead, Jesus appeared to many disciples chosen by God as witnesses and commanded to preach to the people and testify He was the One sent to judge the living and the dead. The second reading exhorted all who have been raised with Christ to seek the things from above and set their minds on spiritual things, not on worldly things. The gospel reading focused on Mary Magdalene who has seen the Lord.
Her witnessing was enough to instantly create a burning desire in the apostles who rushed to the tomb looking for Jesus.
While we are in the world, we are not of the world.
We set our sight on things above and on Jesus who is the Lord of all and who can ignite our hearts with a burning hunger that will draw us close to Him.
