The three readings juxtaposed allegorize the end of death and the beginning of the resurrection and the life. The recurring theme throughout is that of The Resurrection and the Life. Ezekiel in today’s First Reading offers hope and a new from the God of life who will restore their nation and fill them with the Spirit in the midst of death and annihilation in the Holy Land to the Israelites in exile in Babylon. St Paul continues the theme of the Resurrection and the life by drawing contrasts between a life in the flesh and the life in the Spirit of God. The Spirit of God finds all good things from God the Father. Therefore we must live in holiness for Him. St John’s Gospel speaks of life after death. We see Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. Lazarus’ death is like entering the dark night but when Jesus raised him from the dead, Lazarus enters into the bright light of day- the resurrection. We must live life in God’s will here and now in order to enter the resurrection and the life where Jesus awaits us.
