Obey God’s will

Feast of the holy family
At the heart of the three readings today is the family with a special emphasis on children. In the first reading, we see the greatest desire of families to have a child. Hannah’s prayer for a child was answered and she presented him to the Lord with an offering. The second reading referred to us as the beloved children of God. As sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father, we obey His commandments and do what pleases Him. This ensures that we remain in God and He remains in us. The gospel reading shows the boy Jesus with his parents fulfilling the Jewish Law of making a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Upon finding Jesus in the Temple after missing him, Mary and Joseph inquired about his action that brought them anxiety. Jesus’ answer conveying his identity was not fully understood at the time. Obedience to the Father’s will take precedence over his ties to his family. As children of God, let us remember that we are called first and foremost to obey God’s will in our lives.
