Perfect Obedience To The Will Of God

We learn from the first reading that those who turn away from righteousness to commit sins will die for it, but those who turn away from wickedness to do what is lawful and right will be saved. The second reading highlights that Jesus obeyed His Heavenly Father until the end, even death on the cross. This is perfect obedience to the divine will of God. In the gospel, we see the different actions of two sons who were asked to work in the vineyard. One son broke his promise to do so. He was no different than those who break the New Covenant of God by turning away from His righteous ways. The other son did the will of the father by obeying. When confronted with issues of contraception, abortion, same sex marriage, euthanasia, violence etc., do we obey God’s teachings or conform to the ways of the world? Perfect obedience to the will of God is to give ourselves completely, one hundred percent, without exception.
