Proclaim God By Word And Deed

Tenth Sunday of Ordinary Time
In the first reading, we see Elijah’s prayerful intercession to God which led to the child’s revival. This resurrection of the widow’s son showed the prophet to be a man of God and established the truth and authority of the Lord’s word in his mouth. In the second reading, Paul made it clear that the Gospel he preached originated from Christ. God had set him apart to proclaim the Gospel to the Gentiles. These authentic Christian teachings were personally taught to him by the Lord Jesus Christ himself. In the gospel, we again see the raising of a widow’s son but in Jesus’ times. Jesus was moved with compassion and brought the boy to life with His word. The crowd was convinced that He was a great prophet and that God had looked favourably upon His people, and they spread these things throughout Judea and the surrounding country. The readings today remind us that we are called to be missionaries and to proclaim God by both word and deed.
