13 July 2014 ( 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time ) Bible Sunday

[Isaiah 55:10-11] [Romans 8:18-23] [Matthew 13:1-23]

The Word of God is available for everyone. Anyone can pick up the bible and read the words. It has been translated into numerous languages, and there are so many books and other forms of media to explain what the content means. Yet, why is it many of us still cannot comprehend what God is trying to tell us, even those of us who profess to be faithful followers of Christ? Jesus spoke to great crowds, all were welcomed. But it seems certain conditions needs to be fulfilled to understand His teaching. Our heart cannot be so dulled by the messages of the secular world that it can only reject everything else. Nor can we say we accept His word, that He is our Saviour and yet reject His teaching when it’s inconvenient to follow Him. We need to be like the disciples, in whom the word bore fruit, be one who makes the word of God come alive in permanent gestures of understanding, love and compassion for our fellow men. We need to be the church that fulfills our role as the bearer of good news.
