Good Shepherd Sunday (Fourth Sunday of Easter)
Jesus calls out to His sheep and they hear Him, they are confident of His love. We profess to know Him and love Him, but do we hear Him? Especially over many other distracting voices clamouring for our attention, in the competitive work place, the mass media, the endless pursuit of self-gratification and worldly success? Have we found it challenging to make both a place for ourselves in this world and yet valiantly aim for heaven? How are we as role models to our children? Have we been good shepherds ourselves? Would we lay down our lives for their sake? Have we fought for our young, to protect them from all sorts of temptation and to make sure we have passed on the right teachings to help them remain faithful to the Church? How about for our fellow Catholics and also for our non-Catholic family and friends? How can we be their light, as the apostles were to the Gentiles? Could we be their instrument of salvation, the good shepherd to “lead them to the springs of life-giving water”?
