The hidden treasure

Finding the hidden treasure, the pearl, seems to be a grace, only if God wills it. It’s not just by hard work. These parables simply remind us that we are in the presence of something gratuitous. However, when the gifts arrive, we need to be ready to really receive them by giving up everything else that we have already attained, willingly, joyously. The gift of the kingdom calls us to choose. Once again, there is no sitting on the fence. We need to accept the gifts wholeheartedly, by using these gifts in our daily lives, for better or worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health. For how could we possibly share this hidden treasure with others, if we cannot fully understand it nor believe in it? Our words and our actions need to be in harmony. Then we can share Jesus’ message, and they would not sound hollow as we have first lived it. Let us be the helping hand, to be the light that shines on the path for our brothers and sisters to discover their hidden treasure.
