The time drag between the Ascension of Jesus into heaven and Pentecost must have been the longest 50-day wait the Apostles had ever experienced! While on earth, Jesus had taught them about the heavenly kingdom and the chance for them to share in God's eternal glory. During the long wait leading to Pentecost, the thought that these were just empty promises must have crossed their minds more than a few times. Then came Pentecost, one of the key turning points in the history of the Church, where the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles. The Holy Spirit enlightened, empowered and transformed the Apostles, and turned them from mice to men. Their whole perspective was now changed. Suddenly, all the things that took place from the persecution to the crucifixion, and from the resurrection to the ascension, started to make sense. From feeling intimidated by the Jews, they began to speak boldly about the truth of the teachings of Jesus. Convicted in their faith, they went on to preach the good news to far reaches of the world, many of them giving their lives for their faith in Jesus Christ.
