The mercy of God

Fourth Sunday of Lent
In the first reading, we see God taking away from the Israelites the disgrace of Egypt. Though the men who were slaves in Egypt had been disobedient to God during their journey in the wilderness, the next generation had entered the land of Canaan promised by God to their fathers. The second reading tells us that we are reconciled to God through Christ and we become new creations in Him. We have been given the ministry of reconciliation and have been called upon to be ambassadors of Christ to spread the good news and urge everyone to be reconciled to God. The gospel reveals through the Parable of the Prodigal Son the compassion of God for sinners. He is waiting with open arms for those who are ‘dead’ and ‘lost’ to return to Him. As we reflect on the Word of God today, let us be thankful for God’s compassion and also remind ourselves of the urgency to proclaim the mercy of God so that others may be reconciled to Him.
