Three in One

The concept of a Trinitarian God is one of the great mysteries of the Church. But if Christians believe that God is Love, then the idea of a "trinitarian" God becomes easier to accept.
That's because in order to love, you have to be in relationship with another person.
At the basic level, we need to have a healthy love of self. But for love to be complete, this love of self has to be extended to others in husband-wife relationships, in the family and in the wider community.
So the Holy Trinity, comprising three distinct persons in a dynamic, love relationship with each other, is not so far-fetched after all ! The Holy Trinity may be compared to a shamrock leaf with three hands, or a single pod containing three seeds. The people of the Old Testament had a vague picture of God as a powerful entity with powers over them. But now Jesus gives us a clearer definition of God when he said: "Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
