To God & Country

19 October 2014 ( 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time )
In what order do we live our lives? How do we resolve the situation should there be a conflict? Do we remain faithful to God? We have seen many martyrs before us who refused to compromise God’s law, to reinterpret it to suit the times and popular opinions. So how do we live a life that is congruent with our faith? How could we be true citizens of this world as God intended for us? How do we obey the civil laws and regulations, fulfill our duties to our fellow men, duties such as what husbands and wives, parents and children owe to each other, including what the rich could give to the poor, the strong to the weak and the learned to the less enlightened? When we see divisions growing amongst and within ourselves, let us pray for God’s wisdom to rule our footsteps, so that we can escape the traps of this world that seem to be drawn to the earthly images of success and happiness, may we instead recognize and prioritize the things that bear Your image alone.
