Christmas @ Church of the Risen Christ
And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Hebrews 10:24-25
The Church as Family cannot reach all her possibilities as Church unless she is divided into communities small enough to foster close human relationships."
Pope St John Paul II
To form “Little Churches”, whereby Catholics living in the same neighbourhood come together to support each other in their journey of discipleship with Jesus; and in so doing, to evangelise non-Catholics living within the neighbourhood.
To live as one body of Christ by supporting each other spiritually and corporally.
To make the Gospel come alive through regular reflection, sharing & action.
To serve the needs of and evangelise to the neighbourhood community at large.
Should I join an NCC?
If you’re a parishioner living within the neighbourhood, absolutely.
I’m a non-Catholic, can I join an NCC?
If you would like to enquire about the Catholic faith, you may join our faith formation programme: RCIA (for adults) or RCIY (for youth). If you’re interested to journey regularly in discipleship with a community of faith, you’re most welcome to join an NCC.
I’m living in a different NCC zone or parish boundary; can I still join a particular NCC?
The intention of each NCC is to bring together Catholics from the same neighbourhood, but this is not a rigid rule. If you’re living in a different NCC zone or parish boundary, you may still join as a regular member, especially if there are no NCCs in your zone.
What do members do during NCC meetings?
We follow each step of the Seven Steps Gospel Sharing Method. Our meetings are in English.
This framework was developed by Asian bishops through the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) movement, which helps Catholics prayerfully reflect on Scripture together and translate God’s Word into daily life and action.
Are there NCCs for other languages?
There is one NCC for Mandarin-speaking parishioners (基督信仰小团体).
For details, please contact the Mandarin Lay Apostolate Community
What other activities are conducted by the NCCs?
Aside from regular meetings, members also participate in:
Works of mercy (visiting the sick & elderly)
Spiritual activities (retreats, pilgrimages)
Maundy Thursday Church Visitations
Lent/Advent Booklets from the Office for the New Evagelisation (ONE)
Fellowship (potluck, movies, celebrations, dance)
Where and when are the NCC meetings?
Most NCC meetings are held in our members’ homes, while some are held online.
How often an NCC meets can vary. Some have weekly meetings, some fortnightly, some monthly. It depends on the availability of time and the venue.
There are already so many communities & ministries, why have an NCC at all?
A ministry meets for a purpose, whereas a community’s purpose is to meet.
While there are ministries for the sick, home-bound, etc; each NCC provides a convenient space for people to gather in faith. The kampung spirit is what makes us stop to help a neighbour, share a meal, and laugh together — it turns strangers into family.
