What is the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC)?

Important means to realise the priestly, prophetic and kingly role of priests and laity
Structure of participation by its lay faithful
In collaboration with our priests to

- ponder

- investigate; and

- formulate

practical conclusions on pastoral concerns

Three Levels Of Lay Participation In Decision Making

Parish Assembly

Comprises of all lay faithful – anyone who is interested
To elect lay faithful to sit on the Parish Pastoral Council
Meets once a year or once every 2 years depending on the Parish Priest discretion
Consultation and feedback from Christ’s faithful
PA for this year 14 Jan 2017

Parish Pastoral Council (PPC)

elected lay faithful from the Parish Assembly and 2 nominees from each ministry
meets 3-4 times a year
number of lay faithful to sit on the Council – min 40
Nature of the PPC – CONSULTATIVE
3 main focus of the PPC

- Ponder

- Propose practical conclusions

Executive Committee (Ex-Co)

Head/President/Coordinator of each ministry sits in
meets every 1st Monday of the month
to put into action proposals set up by the PPC with regard to parish / pastoral concerns

So….Why Do We Need The PPC ?

Prayers and worship important – but not to be contented with solely
Communion with fellow Catholics
Relating to and uniting with fellow Catholics
Laity as prophetic people – responsible for faith formation
Plan and implement parish pastoral plans
Pastoral plans – involve development of the church / realisation of the Gospel values of love, peace, truth and justice in society
Enables and invites all Christian faithful to participation

Who Do We Nominate to the PPC?

A Parish Pastoral Council Member should be ……
Christ-centred, spirit filled, community minded, Eucharistic, a person of vision and reflection, broad-minded, outward reaching
A Parish Pastoral Council Member should have ……
A thirst for sharing the Good News, a strong sense of justice, Gospel values at heart, compassion for the weak, courage to speak out.
A Parish Pastoral Council Member should love ……
God, people of every age group, people of all faiths, his family, young people and children, reading the word of God
A Parish Pastoral Council Member should not ……
Focus only on the interests of his own organisation, family or neighbourhood
A Parish Pastoral Council Member sitting on the Council
does not represent his/her organisation, regardless of what title he/she holds in the organisation. He/she represents the whole Parish

Parish Assembly

Comprises of all lay faithful – anyone who is interested,
To elect lay faithful to sit on the Parish Pastoral Council (includes 2 nominees from each ministry),
Meets once a year or once every 2 years depending on the Parish Priest discretion

Parish Pastoral Council

Elected lay faithful from the Parish Assembly,
Meets 3-4 times a year,
Number of lay faithful to sit on the Council – min 40,
3 main focus of the PPC,
